Houston Forum to Highlight Top Legal, Advisory Voices in U.S.–Africa Energy Investment
)
The upcoming U.S.– Africa Energy Forum (USAEF), taking place August 6-7 at The Post Oak Hotel in Houston, will bring together top-tier consultancy and legal professionals to enhance U.S. stakeholders’ engagement in Africa’s energy markets. This year’s Forum will highlight the strategic intersection of policy, regulatory and legal advisory through the participation of Eric A. Williams, President & Principal Consultant at Royal Triangle Energy Solutions; Jude Kearney, Managing Partner of ASAFO & CO. (U.S.); Oneyka Cindy Ojogbo, Deputy Managing Partner, CLG and Susan D. Maples, Partner in Watson Farley & Williams’ Energy Group.
Royal Triangle, led by former Trinidad & Tobago Minister of Energy Eric Williams, delivers high-level advisory on gas monetization, local content development and project structuring across African markets. Williams has collaborated with governments such as Equatorial Guinea, Ghana and Mozambique – the last on LNG strategy – while providing strategic input at the recent Congo Energy & Investment Forum, focusing on local-participation frameworks under evolving regulatory regimes.
Jude Kearney brings deep expertise in cross-border transactions through his leadership of ASAFO & CO. (U.S.) in Washington, D.C. A former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce, Kearney has decades of experience advising on project finance, M&A, privatization, and U.S.–Africa trade policy. He currently serves on the U.S.–Africa Committee of the African Energy Chamber (AEC), helping shape the Chamber’s strategy to strengthen commercial and policy linkages between U.S. stakeholders and African governments. ASAFO & CO. remains a key legal partner for U.S. firms navigating complex transactions on the continent.
The AEC – a strategic partner of USAEF – launched its Advisory Services Arm in June to further support Africa’s energy development across oil, gas and petrochemicals. This initiative provides end-to-end guidance on high-value transactions, from early-stage structuring to execution, while promoting regulatory reform, local content and investment-friendly frameworks. Beyond advisory services, the AEC also offers specialized expertise in identifying and executing high-value investment opportunities across Africa’s petroleum value chain. Leveraging its international footprint, expertise in strategic markets across Africa and strong public and private sector ties, it supports mutually-beneficial investments in Africa. With a global footprint and strong public-private linkages, the AEC is actively advancing U.S.–Africa investment alignment.
CLG (formerly Centurion Law Group) is a pan-African law firm with a strong footprint across the continent and a network of over 300 legal and business professionals. With 16 offices in key African markets, including South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, and most recently the Republic of Congo, CLG supports clients in structuring energy and infrastructure deals aligned with local frameworks. Oneyka Cindy Ojogbo, a seasoned expert in cross-border project finance, advises on high-impact transactions and brings a global perspective from her work across Africa, Europe and North America. CLG was recently ranked the number one law firm in Equatorial Guinea by Chambers and Partners’ Global Guide 2025.
Watson Farley & Williams, recently enhanced by the appointment of energy disputes specialist Susan Maples in New York, offers expertise in international arbitrations, profit-sharing mechanisms, stabilization and licensing issues across both traditional and renewable energy projects in Africa. Maples helps navigate complex geologic-rights challenges, investor-state disputes and cross-border compliance.
As U.S. investors expand their footprint in Africa’s energy sector – spanning LNG, oil and gas, clean energy and infrastructure – navigating governance and compliance systems has never been more critical. The upcoming Forum will provide a clear roadmap through regulatory frameworks, fiscal terms, contractual structures and local community considerations. With deep experience in African legal and regulatory regimes available to guide U.S. capital, the Forum offers strategic insight for building successful, compliant and resilient investments across the continent’s dynamic energy markets.
