Morocco’s ONHYM Joins Houston Energy Forum as Major Energy Initiatives Advance

Nawfal Drari, Director of Project Finance at Morocco’s National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM), will join the U.S.-Africa Energy Forum (USAEF) 2025 in Houston to unpack the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP) and highlight expanding opportunities for U.S. investors across this natural gas transportation infrastructure.

This strategic project, launched by his Majesty the King and the Nigerian President, has reached several important milestones as a step forward leading to the Final Investment Decision (FID). Through AAGP, both Morocco and Nigeria express their willingness to establish a platform for regional integration, economic growth and steady supply of much needed affordable and sustainable source of energy. Once completed, the pipeline is expected to connect 13 countries on the African Atlantic coast and 3 landlocked countries before supplying part of the gas to Europe via the existing connection between both continents, the Maghreb Europe gas Pipeline (MEP).

At USAEF 2025, Drari will join key stakeholders from across the U.S. and African energy sectors to contribute to high-level discussions around financing and developing such an infrastructure.

His participation underscores the rationale behind the AAGP project, its phased implementation, and current progress, as well as the positive impacts of this infrastructure and its beneficial externalities for Africa and for interested American investors.

Located at the crossroads of Africa and Europe, Morocco has been implementing an energy strategy since 2009, focusing on renewable energy, energy efficiency, gas development, and regional integration. The country has also launched a green hydrogen roadmap with a clear vision and strategy. Morocco offers significant investment opportunities, not only in the energy sector, but also in the mining sector, which holds considerable potential for critical and strategic minerals.
