U.S.-Africa Energy Forum to Feature DRC’s Push for Power Sector Investment

The U.S.-Africa Energy Forum (USAEF) 2025 is pleased to announce Hon. Teddy Lwamba, Minister of Hydraulic Resources and Electricity of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as a featured speaker at this year’s event in Houston on August 6-7. As the DRC works to strengthen its power infrastructure and position itself as a future energy exporter, Minister Lwamba brings valuable insight into one of Africa’s most resource-rich and strategically significant markets.
The DRC holds immense untapped potential in hydroelectric power – estimated at 100,000 MW – with the capacity to meet domestic demand and export clean energy across the region. The government is advancing large-scale infrastructure projects, including the 11 GW Inga III development, which received a $250 million funding boost from the World Bank last week. Alongside this, regional transmission initiatives aim to strengthen power connectivity between Central and Southern Africa, supporting the continent’s broader goals of industrialization and economic growth through reliable, sustainable energy.
With Houston recognized globally as a hub for energy innovation and investment, Minister Lwamba’s presence at USAEF comes at a pivotal time for U.S.-Africa energy collaboration. The DRC’s hydro capacity, rich resource base and strategic location within African power corridors present significant opportunities for American companies to invest across the energy value chain, from infrastructure development to technology integration and project financing.
Minister Lwamba’s participation also comes as the DRC pursues major reforms and infrastructure upgrades to strengthen its electricity sector and expand access across the country. With under 20% of the population currently connected to the grid, the demand for reliable, large-scale energy solutions is urgent and presents significant opportunities for international investment.
As the DRC moves to modernize its electricity sector, connect rural communities and export clean power across borders, USAEF 2025 offers a vital platform to build commercial bridges between Congolese leadership and American industry.
